KoaPanel now runs on AlmaLinux 9 and Rocky Linux 9 too

Until now KoaPanel needed an Ubuntu 24.04 server. From version 0.57.0 it installs on AlmaLinux 9 and Rocky Linux 9 too, the two free Red Hat family distributions most used in hosting. If you moved from CentOS to AlmaLinux, or already run every server on Rocky, you can use KoaPanel without changing operating system.

How to install it

The command is the same as on Ubuntu, on a freshly created AlmaLinux 9 or Rocky Linux 9 server, as root:

curl -fsSL https://get.koapanel.app | sudo bash

The script detects the system by itself. In 5-10 minutes the panel answers at https://SERVER-IP:8443.

What the installer sets up

On AlmaLinux and Rocky the installer adds the repositories it needs, then installs everything as on Ubuntu:

  • EPEL and CRB, the standard extra repositories of the Red Hat family;
  • PHP from Remi, with several versions on the same server and one per site;
  • MariaDB 10.11 and, when needed, PostgreSQL 16;
  • rspamd for mail antispam;
  • firewalld with the panel's ports already open;
  • dnf-automatic for the system's security updates.

SELinux stays on

Many panels ask you to turn SELinux off before installing them. KoaPanel doesn't: SELinux stays in enforcing mode and the panel sets the rules the sites need by itself (booleans and labels for PHP, nginx and the site folders). The server keeps the protection it was created with.

What about Ubuntu?

Nothing changes on Ubuntu 24.04: same installer, same updates, same features.

Coming from cPanel on AlmaLinux

If you run cPanel on AlmaLinux or CloudLinux today, the SSH migration brings sites, databases, mail and cron jobs to the new KoaPanel server. From cPanel on CloudLinux it imports each account's limits too.

Try KoaPanel on your server

One command on Ubuntu 24.04 or 26.04, AlmaLinux 9 or Rocky Linux 9, free up to 3 sites. Are you a provider or an agency? Let's talk wholesale pricing and migrations.
