License and activation

Since version 0.9 the license, besides being verified on the server, is activated online on the license server. It serves one purpose only: making sure each license is used on one server only.

Activating a license

There are three equivalent ways:

1. One click: after the purchase press Activate in your panel (on the confirmation page or in the email). Plan and license opens with the code already filled in: check plan and holder and press Activate license.
2. Pasting the code in Plan and license → Enter license code → Activate license.
3. From the terminal: panel-agent license activate CODE.

The panel verifies the signature of the code, then sends it to the license server together with the server ID (shown in Plan and license). The first activation binds the license to this server.

"This license is already active on another server"

It appears when you try to activate a code that is already bound to another server. The license is not activated and nothing changes on this server.

If you moved to a new server (new VPS, reinstall on another machine) write to support with the new server ID: we move the license for you. At its next check the old server goes back to the Free plan limits.

The daily check

Once a day the panel contacts the license server and receives a signed confirmation valid for 30 days. The same check brings, by itself:

• the renewal (new expiry) and plan or limit changes: nothing to paste;
• a possible suspension or revocation of the license.

You can force the check with Check now in the current plan card.

If the license server cannot be reached

The panel keeps working normally:

• with a valid confirmation, for all its 30 days;
• then for 14 more days of tolerance, with a notice at the top of the pages;
• only after that the Free plan limits apply.

If you activate a code while the license server does not answer, the license is saved as activation pending: it works for 14 days and the panel retries by itself.

Sites and data are never deleted: with the Free plan limits only the creation of new sites beyond the limit is blocked.

Suspended or revoked licenses

A suspended or revoked license counts as the Free plan from the next check. Existing sites keep working. For explanations open a request in Support with the "License" category.

License server

Its address is in Plan and license → Purchase links → License server. It normally does not need to change. If the address is the example one (…example.invalid) online activation is off and the license is verified on the server only, as in previous versions.
